[Masaomi, back from his mission steps up out of the tunnels... tired. He's quite tired, as is Linda (who is resting her pokeball which is clipped onto his vest. He has on the ninja flak vest he borrow from Shikamaru forever ago and also looks a bit beat up. Some of his sleeves are torn as are his pants. He has some cuts, some bruises, and some burns, not all of them healed but some of them healing. He also has one of his collapseable batons in his hand. Aside from this, his muscle build up is more obvious but-

But something different about the image - despite all that and the rain and the injuries, he's laughing once he looks up at the sky. Stronger. Stronger. He already feels it. Well, no time like the present, despite his tired he's going out to accomplish a few things. First is actually to go pick up something to drink from the grocery and pick something up from the item shop (feel free to run into him at either of those) and head over to Mikado's apartment. It's an important day, after all, and he did not want to blow him off for it. Besides, if he heads there now, he might make it as the guy is coming back to school and he might run into him before then.

After that, well, he'll spend his day with Mikado until that night (though anyone can run into him before then). This'll last until about 8PM, when he's going to be going to hang out just inside the battle dome for a reason which might obvious to a lot of people. (and no, he still has not changed his clothes, even if he might have cleaned up the more obvious injuries). And after whatever comes of that, he's going to go back to his apartment to meet up with his roommate and anyone he didn't run into through the rest of the day before finally popping open the journal.]

[Voice]

Masaomi Kida has returned!! I hope you all didn't miss me too dearly!! [Okay so he's tried and running on caffeine by now, but he's still grinning ear to ear] Some rain out there today, and man is it wet- [he resists saying "ladies I hope you didn't get too wet if you saw me today" but it's hard. He laughs to himself at that joke despite not saying] You can tell the sky's telling us something though, riiight? We're approaching spring, a time of love and lust and all between! So sound off!! Whooooo's got a special someone? Who's got a crush? You can trust me, I'm a Love Machine.

[Laughing at this, once more]

So ladies... and gentlemen. Don't speak up all at once.

[She thinks nothing of him returning to the proper distance in response to her shove. That's as it should be.]

Freedom of information laws. Disclosure? Transparency...?

[He shrugs. Admittedly, in a tribe that might not even be a concern]

...I've never heard of them.

Maaah... [He folds his arms back behind his head, smiling a bit lop-sided like] Do you even know what a government is, come to think of it? [He really doesn't meant that to sound offensive, though it might. It's more that a tribal society would have just had a singular ruler or a council or something, right? Not necessarily a super-organized government superstructure] Bureaucracy? You're not going to know the Diet, buuut that'll give me somewhere to start from.

[She gives him a flat look.]

I've been to Ba Sing Se. I know plenty about bureaucracy.

Oh, good [Though that look is odd, oh well] well, on Earth, the vast majority of governments are bureaucracies at heart. Little nuances, of course, buuuut that's how we do. Freedom of information laws are where the public demands to know the details of what the leaders are doing.

[He waves a hand. He's no political junkie, but...]

[...heh.]

I'm pretty sure they didn't have that law in Ba Sing Se.

[Not even the KING knew what they were doing.]

Oooh? That sounds a little corrupt, doesn't it?

Yeah, you could say that. Ba Sing Se was... a pretty horrible city, really.

Horrible... huh. [He looks up at the sky. The sun's pretty much set by now, but the days are getting longer. Not that long ago it was shining properly] I wonder, would you say the same about Tokyo...? [a pause. It's there, but he adds on too quick for her to answer before he says it-] Baaah, that's sophistry though.

I don't know. Does Tokyo have an entire branch of government dedicated to lying to the king and the people about what's going on outside its walls?

[So they can stay safe and the rest of the world can burn?]

[...Blink. Blink, and now he shakes his head, laughing] I think that'd be impossible.

Then I guess Tokyo is already one step ahead.

[Okay, now's as good a time as any.]

Hey, so... speaking of home. A good friend of mine showed up this cycle.

[Katara is clearly pleased, torn about being pleased, and at the same time, slightly hesitant. Sweetie.]

[Hoh. He looks over at her, trying to get a read on her expression. A good friend...? If she's putting it like that, it's not one he'd've met. Not Toph coming beck... so.

Probably that one star of that story from forever ago. he can't place a name]

Oh yeah?

Aang. [The name is of someone precious, even if the emotion is slightly muted.] I know I told you about him - he's the Avatar.

[She did - of course she did but at the same time it takes him a moment to connect it all. In the context of those stories, that would mean...

So he's-] Oooh, the big hero himself, huh? My.

[Something feels wrong about this announcement though. He can't place it, and continues to study her. Linda, on her shoulder, actually senses something weird too (possibly with the electrical patterns in her body, possibly just with her trainer's hidden tension)]

[She could take offense at his tone - or she could simply disregard it. She knows he's just information gathering, but the truth is, she's not really sure where to go from here.]

Yeah, he's definitely the hero. [Soft. Proud. Still muted.]

It's [the barest pause] really good to see him again.

[There it is again. He frowns, lightly. It's still wrong. Something's not right. She should be more excited. She should be pushing him to come meet her hero. Her Avatar.

...Her? No, don't go there Masaomi, it brought you to a bad place with Zuko. Don't assume, figure it out. And besides that, if it was anything beyond what she knew (or suspected) it was now she would have told him long, long ago. Katara is a good girl, it's not at all Katara-like to even humor him if she was in love (or hell, even liked) with someone she knew was tangible.

Chouji no longer is, and that still haunts her.]

It must be - for all of you. To have someone important like that returned must be a very special feeling.

[He tries to make this sound sincere. He actually wants it to be, but it's not coming out quite right mostly because his gears are still turning]

Well, he's been here before. [It's part of the problem.] Three times. He's never stayed very long.

[And it's torn her heart out each time he's left. The last time he was here, it had barely been a week. She'd lost something of herself, of her openness towards him, that last time in her recovery.]

Still, it's been almost - a year an a half since the last time I saw him.

He doesn't remember. It would be completely insane to assume he did from the context of that statement. And a year and a half? To be honest, longer than he's known Katara. Or maybe about as long, who's counting. Far longer than Luceti Valley. Longer than his feelings for her. The context of it reminds him that even beyond a life at home he could have never touched she had a life here he couldn't.

...But that's immaterial. Is that the cause of the wrongness here? It's a distinct possibility]

Ah. ...Ah.

[How does he even respond to that, looking down at her]

...That has to have been hard.

It's [she swallows hard] better. He's way too important to be here. Our world needs him so much, so... it's always been better that he's gone.

[More quietly:] I've missed him, though.

[She won't admit, even to Masaomi, that going back through the journals to find posts with Aang's voice was how she chose to commemorate her two years here. She'd missed him so much.

And now he's here. And he's not the Aang she remembers.]
