[Masaomi, back from his mission steps up out of the tunnels... tired. He's quite tired, as is Linda (who is resting her pokeball which is clipped onto his vest. He has on the ninja flak vest he borrow from Shikamaru forever ago and also looks a bit beat up. Some of his sleeves are torn as are his pants. He has some cuts, some bruises, and some burns, not all of them healed but some of them healing. He also has one of his collapseable batons in his hand. Aside from this, his muscle build up is more obvious but-

But something different about the image - despite all that and the rain and the injuries, he's laughing once he looks up at the sky. Stronger. Stronger. He already feels it. Well, no time like the present, despite his tired he's going out to accomplish a few things. First is actually to go pick up something to drink from the grocery and pick something up from the item shop (feel free to run into him at either of those) and head over to Mikado's apartment. It's an important day, after all, and he did not want to blow him off for it. Besides, if he heads there now, he might make it as the guy is coming back to school and he might run into him before then.

After that, well, he'll spend his day with Mikado until that night (though anyone can run into him before then). This'll last until about 8PM, when he's going to be going to hang out just inside the battle dome for a reason which might obvious to a lot of people. (and no, he still has not changed his clothes, even if he might have cleaned up the more obvious injuries). And after whatever comes of that, he's going to go back to his apartment to meet up with his roommate and anyone he didn't run into through the rest of the day before finally popping open the journal.]

[Voice]

Masaomi Kida has returned!! I hope you all didn't miss me too dearly!! [Okay so he's tried and running on caffeine by now, but he's still grinning ear to ear] Some rain out there today, and man is it wet- [he resists saying "ladies I hope you didn't get too wet if you saw me today" but it's hard. He laughs to himself at that joke despite not saying] You can tell the sky's telling us something though, riiight? We're approaching spring, a time of love and lust and all between! So sound off!! Whooooo's got a special someone? Who's got a crush? You can trust me, I'm a Love Machine.

[Laughing at this, once more]

So ladies... and gentlemen. Don't speak up all at once.

Hero or Avatar or whatever is the case, Katara... before that, he's some boy named Aang, a treasured friend of yours, right? [And he raises an arm. It seems to want to go to her face or her shoulder, but he resists breaking the last bit of distance]

[No, don't. Don't do that. That's not the kind of comfort she can accept from you.

She glances at his hand, a little wide-eyed, and minutely shakes her head.

Her smile as she explains is a little pained.]

It's.. not really like that. You can't disconnect the two any more than you could disconnect the fact that I'm a waterbender. Being the Avatar is part of who he is.

[A pause. A pause and his hand doesn't lower, but it shifts. Away from going to touch and instead to float up in the air between them. From himself though, a more confident smile comes up on it]

I can't speak for the destiny of a world, but even if Mikado was the prime minister, or even if he was the messiah, I would rather be with me than apart from me.

I can understand that feeling.

[But that's all it is. It's just a feeling. It doesn't make it right. Any time someone comes here, she shouldn't be happy. They're just trapped, just like the rest of them. It's always better when they leave.

Except for Jet. And maybe Sigmund and Capell.

She turns to keep walking.]

[...Was that it? Hm. he keeps walking with her, looking more at Linda than at her. Linda's closer to Katara and closer to an animal, she should be able to smell fear or any other base emotion like that right.

Incidentally, this is where they diverge. Masaomi will contend that because the feeling is there it is right. Or at least, until he started to interact with Katara, for a long time that has been what he believed.]

It's good. It's... a little strange. He's from almost two years in my future, so... I feel like I'm missing a lot.

[Like there are things Aang isn't saying, both about them and about Zuko and... she's not sure she wants to ask.]

Ah, the future is it?

[He knows about the future.

He hates the future. Aoba, Mikado, Anri, Saki, all of them have been "ahead" of him. He doesn't know for Shizuo, Yuuhei, Celty, Shinra, or Erika, but most likely they were too. It seemed like everyone was]

Yeah. I mean, Sokka and Suki are both from after the war, and Zuko is from... about a month ahead of me, but Aang... he's got to be almost fourteen now.

[And it's so weird, to think that she'd been missing things that really mattered.]

Saaame, Aoba-kun and Mikado're from the next school term, Anri-chan's been further head both times, Saki... well, I think I mentioned her. All ahead of my by at least a few months.

[Fourteen, two years later? Huh]

[Oh, she... hadn't known that.

Although she had known about Saki... and she wonders...]

It's a weird feeling, isn't it.

[He looks a bit off from her face, to Linda on her shoulder] It is.

Did they all... tell you? About your future?

[She somehow manages to shift a little uncomfortably while walking.]

I'm not sure I want to know yet, but it doesn't seem fair, if something happened, for him to have to carry that by himself.

What's unfair about that?! [That comes out a little harshly. Perhaps a bit too harshly. Yes. Yes they did. And in fact... In fact he...]

[And it makes no sense. None of it makes sense]

[Okay, unexpected nerve.

Simply:] Because I would want to help him carry whatever he's carrying. It would be my choice.

[It would always be my choice to help him.]

But that's not what happened with you, was it.

Ah... Hahaah. [He laughs at this. He's not laughing at her, he's laughing at the comparison between them being drawn so simply. So blatantly. he feels small. He feels weak, which is odd because he's felt so strong, so invincible all day. He's starting to tremble and his walk is slowing down into blatantly dragging his heels]

I left them.

[Katara turns to face him and meets his gaze. Her voice is low.]

Stop it. Stop it right now.

[Stop it?

... Okay shutting up. Hanging his head a bit]

You're taking responsibility and beating yourself up for something that hasn't even happened yet. You're not the same person you are right now as you were when this happened. You don't even know what made you leave them in the first place. All you have is what they told you about someone who isn't even you right now. So stop it.

In the future, I leave them - I got beat up, hospitalized, and I left, not even saying a word. They didn't even know why I did. [A beat] ...And Anri-chan was only from three months ahead. ...It's soon.

They don't know why, which means you don't know why you did.

[She takes a half-step closer to him.]

Besides, that might be what happened to him, [she unconsciously mimics her language from when they had spoken about their Valentine'd alternate selves] but you aren't him. You're not responsible for what you didn't do yet, especially if you're trying to change now.

Feeling guilty about it, beating yourself up - I can understand why you'd want to, but it's not real. It would be like you taking responsibility for what you did in Luceti Valley.

[Her gaze flickers down for a minute before meeting his again.] You'll have enough to deal with once it happens. You don't need to try to put yourself in there now when you don't really fit.

[It's not real. His eyes narrow, and he keeps locked on her, but...]
