So, who here's heard of dinosaurs?

[ He's been reading Michael Crichton lately, sue him. Also, he genuinely wonders how many not-Earth people have, given a lot of animals do seem similar between a lot of worlds, but... dinosaurs though. ]

[ Action ]

[ Well, there are normal staples of Masaomi's day: you can see him working the Convenience Store if you want, you can see him shopping for clothes, you can see him in the library (perhaps picking up some books in the aforementioned dinosaurs), or training (in a tank top and shorts) at the Battle Dome. At the end of the day you might also see him going to HQ for the end of the night.

But... something else is at the Dome today fore someone who wants special stuff. Namely, once he's tired and sweaty and Linda has worked herself hard, Masaomi is still using his room, but he's using it to project images of all sorts of dinosaurs based on a picture book that he picked up at the library. To see them in motion, because why wouldn't you try to do something like that? ]

[ Gotta be cool, Masaomi!! ]

Okay, sure. [ Red will follow! ] What's cat food made of? Biscuits? [ oh, oh- ] Has Pipichu ever tried it?

What on Earth's a Pipichu?

[ Jeez. But ... you know he has no idea what cat food is made of... ]

Your pikachu? Um... wasn't it a cutesy name like that?

Linda. It's nothing like that. [ Huff

Anyway there's the cat food, and he heads back to the counter. ... And considers looking at the coffee machine. No. that's too mean. ]

[ Wowww.... is he sure he knows his own pikachu's name??? Red's sure he remembers something about a pipichu too!

At least he gets to see the pikachu of the moment though when he follows Masaomi over to the counter - and, of course, his own. Who gives him a welcoming sound and a wave, right before he chucks over one his spicy nuts to the trainer. Red catches it, just - or he traps it against his chest his the heel of his hands. Ah... ahhhhhh....

ok let's make small talk. ] So, how much do you know about pokémon? Do you only know about pikachus and the pokémon your friends have?

I know a few more than that, but I wouldn't call myself an expert or anything. It's been two years, and I still haven't totally memorized all those type-matches.

[ He explains this with a wave of his his hand, giving a thumbs up to Linda, which she huffs at and looks away from because she was talking with this simpleton. Gosh. ]

[ This simpleton who is now asking her so lik hey, do you wanna train together sometime?? Maybe fight?? Me and Red are always in the battledome!! ]

Like what's weak and strong? Does learning that stuff matter here anyway? Unless you want to figure it out for fighting against other trainers.

[ But wow... this guy's been a trainer for two years, huh! ]

Aaahha. Yeah, see, not much. But... [ He shrugs now, getting a little bit nostalgic for when he was more new. Masaomi sighs dramatically, rolling his shoulders ] I was told that was one of those basics I should master, and so I tried.

[ Oh fight, definitely fight tho. She would love to smack you around a little. We're in that Dome a lot too because we both work out there. ]

[ Red hmmms, thinking about it. ]

Sure, maybe if you're back in a world full of pokémon?... but what I think a trainer should know before any of that? Is who their pokémon is. Because who says Linda would've wanted to grow up being a fighter? Or want to be serious about it, anyway.

And figuring out all the type match-ups here ever seems pretty dumb and useless to me.

[ Don't think Pikachu won't smack a girl right back!! ]

[ ... Ah. That's so simple, but it's true, honestly. He can't help but think back to the early days of him and Linda, or the days when he thought Hiccup wasn't handling Kyle well, or Ikki and Soren... ]

Ah. Yeah. Well, in my case, I lucked out that Linda was born as a fighter. Don't worry.

I'm not. [ He glances over at Linda. ] If you've known her for two years since she was a baby pikachu, you'd know her the best.

[ Red was going to give this strange that much credit, at least. The pikachu didn't look unhappy from where he stood. ]

Do you know if she ever wants to evolve?

[ Oh he- Masaomi blinks once or twice before he nods. ] She does, yeah. Actually, she's wanted to for a while now and we've got that stone sitting around for when she can! There's been this or that problem, though.

This or that problem? [ Now Red is the one blinking first before continuing ] Like distractions? Or...?

Distractions and... well, this other thing I've worked with Cilan-san about. [ He does not want to explain that whole fiasco to some rando. Linda doesn't either, pouting a bit from overhearing them, but she turns to Pikachu and is like hey let's get something to drink ]

Still! Should be ready to go for it soon enough.

[ Working on A Thing sounds like reason enough, though the last part the guy says makes the side of Red's mouth quirk. What could it be they're doing exactly...? ]

Well... okay. [ The quirk at Red's mouth disappears -- well whatever! Pikachu finishes a nut just as he gets invited for a drink (yeah he was totally listening it). Oh, a drink? Yeah sure!! ]

Raichu's look really cool though! Their ears turn all curly, and their feet are way bigger too!

I've never seen one in person, just seem the info in a Pokédex before. But they really do look cool.

[ Sweet. Okay, Pikachu, let's go use the smoothie machine he calls dibs on the orange ]

[ What's a smoothie orange even yo??? ]

Oh yeah, did you see one of the other trainer's pokédexes? [ He's remembering back to when he met Ikki. ] The one I saw was newer than mine! It had better pictures and all this other stuff recorded in it. [ He makes some hand gestures as he talks, but then stops here. ] But mine's the first ever back where I'm from, and theirs had hundreds of pokémon recorded down.

[ Slushie wow I can type

This iced stuff with fruit and coke and whatever flavors. See we pull this knob ]

My... own, actually. Gold and Silver collected some for all the new trainers at the time, using mission points. I'm not sure where all four of them are now.

[ woooah, it's like.... weird looking! ]

Really? [ Huh. ] Lots of trainers would be jealous of you guys. Or, the really nerdy kinds... but I guess they might be more popular in the future.

-- oh, did you ever meet the man who made it? I heard he was here before! Professor Oak -- I know him and his grandson. He's a really amazing professor!

Not really! I mean, I knew he was here and I think I saw him around, but I had more contact with the prodigal grandson. [ But he knew him, huh? So he really does have parallels to that Red he knows more about. He shrugs a little at this ] But maaan, they should be. The pokédex is really an amazing feat of engineering - I'm in awe of it's construction.

[ But it's good.

And sweet. She normally digs spicy but she likes citrus ]

[ well sure he'll try it! he'll try anything once (except touching spiky things that's dumb)

Also, feel free to note that total unimpressed face right there at 'prodigal grandson'. It came included with a small eyeroll. ]

What? Like how it's put together? [ Is this guy a total nerdy type... ]

[ Cool, take a sip - you need to use a straw tho. Here we go.

As for Masaomi... yes he is. But not in this respect ] More like the functionality. The one I have can tell what attacks a Pokémon's got, information on how they're doing in a battle... It's pretty amazing it can analyze like that. In a world where you are fighting pokémon more, it's probably like having a cheat sheet.

[ Wow -- a pokédex can do all that? Again Red makes a face, mouth pulling to the side and his brow lowering together. ]

My pokédex doesn't do any of that. How does it tell all those things? [ It makes Red fold his arms. ] It's only supposed to catalogue down all the pokémon - that's what Professor Oak originally made it for.

[ but maybe he changed his mind the more it got out in the world...?? ]

Maybe he decided that it should get some data on individuals. Who knows? [ He shrugs ] Like I said, I didn't really know the man.

But how do you do it? Do you just scan the pokémon and all that stuff shows up on the screen?
