...Soren lost another trainer...?

[He mutters that to himself and goes to make a quick filter to Chien. It breaks.]

Damn. That bird has no luck.

[A beat] Does he have his pokeball too?

The red-and-white circle-y thing, right? [ learn the lingo, girl. which she has done for other worlds, but Chien never really used the pokeball around her, ever. ]

Yep, it's here. Is it important? It's where they stay sometimes, right?

Yeah, it's super important. Not for someone like Chien-kun, but...

[...Could Ikki be the new trainer? Could Gold approve? Can she override Chien's lock on the pokedex? He can't think about that now...] Let's meet at the Dome. Are you open for that?

Yes! [ There's a lot of relief in her voice. ] Soren should come, too, right? I'll just go get Momo off of him.

That's right. Soren, the pokedex, and his pokeball. You're also concerned about feeding him, right? Might as well bring what you think is likely to be his food.

[He should call Gold. No, in a bit. He'll go right now]

'Kay. We can get there pretty fast, right? [ That was said more to the pokemon now in tow, and there's a sort of acknowledgement from further away. ] Airbenders are good at fast!

Mmm, I don't know if he's supposed to eat something special. ...Well, he kinda was eating some of what I was eating but I'm not sure if we were supposed to do that. Momo ate some of my apple slices, too. Normally Soren'd have some bread or somethin' from the bakery, all the times I ate with him and Chien.

Pokemon have different diets, but they can eat way more than most animals can, I've found. I can show you how to work the pokedex to check though... [...If she can use it despite being locked out]

'Kay. [ She's...not exactly certain what the pokedex does, entirely, except that it is a thing and Chien fiddled with it on occasion. For now, Ikki just drops that and the pokeball into her pockets. A small bag of dried fruit goes in another of her pockets - healthy snacks: always available in the kitchen at home.

That covers all the things she's supposed to bring, but Ikki pauses to write a note off to her collective guardians via journal, as she typically does before going anywhere. The new rules regarding trusting her judgement are still ringing in her head, but Ikki's pretty certain Masaomi was already on the trusted list, anyway. ]

Okay, done. We'll leave now, and see you in a little! ...Flying's probably fastest. [ And if nothing else, Ikki is at home when her feet aren't on the ground. ]

[Flying... these people. He set out before her, but she's actually closer to the Dome. Even if he sprints, given she's closer and flying, she'll probably get thee first. He still bustles to not keep her waiting too long. He's in lighter attire and with less jewelry than usual, because he didn't take time to doll himself up]

[ Waiting doesn't really bother Ikki that much. She's been up since early in the morning because she's always up early in the morning (and asleep at a reasonable hour, being...seven). She'd just sort of settled in to show Soren her new marble trick while they waited.

It's a sort of game. I show you something, you show me something. The only way it was different from normal was that Chien wasn't there to bystand. ]

It's not as cool as the advanced airbending you did last time, but it's fun, huh? [ what are move names like aerial ace. "Something cool to show you" had been how Chien had described it.

For his part, Soren seems about as impressed by human child airbending as ever, trilling in a way she's pretty certain Chien could interpret for her if he were around. ] Grandpa showed it to me a little bit ago! I meant to show you last time, but I forgot. I've been trying to do the slash thing, but it's haaaaaaard! You must've practiced it really hard.

[ Yep. She's pretty clearly been talking Soren's ear off during what little waiting she's been doing, with pauses for the familiar chirps and trills. It's easier to think about airbending tricks than the missing person she...keeps thinking about. It's really weird to stand there with Soren without Chien, though. ]

[He jogs up quick enough to see that, but when he jogs close enough that he can see, he lingers back, hopefully outside of their notice. He knows Soren has a rivalry with Linda, but that's beside the point. (Linda is in the ball on his pocket right now to be safe though) No, he's hanging back to see Linda and Soren interacting without him butting in. Getting a feel for their relationship...

A bit of surveying, basically. But after he allows himself some time with that, he makes his appearance known with a slight call]

Oiii, Ikki-chan!

[ All the lunches she's had with Chien have been lunches with Soren, too. Half the time Chien ended up talking to her on the journals because Soren wanted him to, and every single time she'd mentioned Chien to her grandparents, Soren had been talked about, too. She'd offered for Chien to come over if he ever needed, yes, and she'd more or less figured it extended to Soren, too - which might be why he'd found her earlier. It's familiar and comfortable to be chattering on at and with the bird pokemon, although there's that empty space where Chien would normally translate or make comments to or about the other two. Ikki's pretty certain Soren makes the same little pauses she does almost automatically, but it's harder to tell.

She stops fiddling with the marbles when she hears her name, slipping them back into a pocket, and waves cheerfully. Soren spotted Masaomi a lot sooner than Ikki did, of course, but there's a greeting from him only after she notices. ]

Masaomi! I brought everything you said!

I knew you would! I wouldn't expect anything else from you!

[And as he waltzes over... wow, all the rooms are taken, alright? Well, whatever, they can hang out in the main room and wait for someone to leave before jumping their spot anyway. He nods to himself and saunters inside the Dome, motioning for her to follow as they head towards some benches]

[ Ikki spends basically no time at the Dome ever - save for one game of volleyball, there's never really been a reason. Well, Sokka did unintentionally tell her about all these mysterious vending machines, but that would really be the only reason to go there.

So she follows Masaomi, kind of glancing around curiously but not wandering off. Soren had apparently spent more time there, since he's a lot less distracted than Ikki is.

Oh, right. She digs out the pokedex and pokeball as they walk, and sort of hesitates for a second, before talking again. ]

Thank you for answering. Iiiiiiii don't know anyone else who knows 'bout pokemon or Chien an' Soren.

Darling, I couldn't do anything less.

[With a suave smile. And once they're at a bench here (first floor, so not the viewing area and not nearing the main stray of the vending machines, sadly) he sits on here cross legged, taking his own pokedex and Linda's luridly repainted ball next to him]

Here ya go! [ Alas, her hunt for the vending machines will wait for another day. She hands over Chien's unchanged pokedex and pokeball, eyeing Linda's yellow ball curiously. ] Chien never really used them all that much around me.

[ Soren lands next to the bench on Ikki's side rather than Masaomi's, and she digs out the last thing she brought, offering a dried apple piece to Soren, and then taking one for herself. She offers the bag to Masaomi after that. In addition to apples there are raisins and some dried pear slices. Yum. ]

Mmmhm. Well, for starters, this pokeball comes in two sizes. [It's presumably in golf ball size now, so he picks it up, squeezes it, and it expands to the size of a baseball. He squeezes it again after a small delay, making it drop down back to a golf ball]

[ ...okay she's not sure why it needs to be able to do that but cool man. ]

...Why?

Basically, in this form [The golf ball size] It's easier to carry around. You can fit it in a pocket or even on a key chain if you get creative. But this. [And he squeezes to baseball size. He then stands and aims at the center podium in the room and... pitches it like a baseball]

Makes it easier to throw accurately!

[And once it touches down over thee it pops open. this would be whee it releases a pokemon if one's in there. Because none is it just re-closes]

I'm not supposed to throw things. [ SHE'S NOT COMPLAINING, she's just still not really entirely clear why they're throwing things. ]

Ummmm Soren can go in it somehow, right? ...Wouldn't it hurt him to throw him like that? [ Soren himself is trilling at Ikki, but she does not speak Soren fluently, so she just looks at Masaomi expectantly after glancing over at Soren. ]

[Masaomi smirks a bit, and then looks down at Ikki before waving to the ball]

Soren can answer that for you, Ikki-chan. You should try to figure out what he's saying while I go get the ball.

[This is an important test. He smiles as he jogs off to get the ball. It won't take all that long at all, but it involves two people who might end up Partners to bond.

After all, Soren chose Chien. Now it seems he's chosen Ikki in the same fashion]

[ why is her life made up of tests. 8|

Still, she's never complained about training before, so she pulls her legs up onto the bench to sit cross-legged and shifts the curious-expectant gaze to Soren. ] Sooooooo does it hurt to be thrown in a ball?

[ There's the typically excited trilling that is usually followed by Chien's less-excited voice. Since he's not there, Ikki...listens. It still sounds like trilling, but she's spent enough time around Soren to notice the tone and how he's holding himself. Wing-pointing and all.

She eyes him thoughtfully for a moment before hazarding a guess. ] No, annnnnnnnd you're laughing. That's what you do when you think Chien is doing something silly.

[ She smothers a giggle, because she can see that scene, with the scowl on one side and the slight tilt of Soren's head on the other. Except she keeps accidentally talking like Chien's just gone out to lunch without them inexplicably, and the laugh trails off. She giggles again when Soren flaps wind right in her face to get her attention, though. ] Nonono I was just thinking! I don't get why people go in balls. We don't put people in balls at home. ...Actually how do you fit in there that's so weird is it magic or like machines or what?

[Masaomi... is actually going slower than he could when getting Soren's ball. He's deliberately sort of taking longer than he needs to to ensure they have time for a good chat in there. To represent this, I give you one more tag]

[ Soren does not actually know the deep and mystical answers to Ikki's ball questions, and she hasn't actually stopped coming up with further questions about this practice, and probably will never stop wondering about it. Ikki's that cute little hyper girl he'd been happy to see again - one day she'd just stopped showing up for lunch, and then a while later she'd been back, like nothing happened - and her expressions are animated enough that it's clear she's half-distracted.

She's also started talking fast enough that anyone but Jinora might be hard pressed to tell what she's actually on about, an obvious sign of nerves.

Ikki's treated to another playful blast of "airbending". She shuts up, sputtering, and then laughs and pushes back, like she did the first time she'd met them back in the fountain. Oh! So he's an airbender, too!

She drops her hands back to her lap after a second, though. ] So he's really, really gone, huh?

[ She'd kind of half hoped Masaomi would magically say Chien wasn't, although Soren obviously knew otherwise and she couldn't contact him at all.

This time Ikki translates the sad tone to Soren's reply without missing a beat; they're both missing the same person, after all. ] ...Mm, well, I have two beds, you know. Do you sleep in a bed? I guess maybe Uncle Sokka could make the top bed into a nest. Uncle Sokka can make anything! ...You've never met him, actually, but you'll get to when we go back home, 'cause you'll have to meet everyone - there's Uncle Sokka and Aunt Toph and Uncle Roku, and then grandpa and Katara - and you met Momo but there's also Appa and Hawky and Petunia! We've got a really, really big family.

[ Talking to her hands is less than productive, but Soren's at her knee and bumping into her, and Ikki does look up. There's another onslaught of chirping she thinks she might catch the meaning of - amused, comforting, and he'd definitely come to find her and hadn't left since. So it's probably, maybe okay to assume what she's assuming. For once in her life she's actually quiet and just grins back. ]

Thought so... [Masaomi mutters that to himself as he comes back, Soren's ball in hand. And now he holds it out. He taps the button's edges to recall Soren. In a red flash of light, he'll turn into a beam and come back in the ball.

...Unless he resists, of course. He's your NPC. But he's doing this to prove a point once he's back in front of him and Ikki, and hoping the bird will follow his lead]
