[This morning Mikado is gone.

More pressingly, his computer and most of the things in his room are gone too. Masaomi stares at it for a long while through the hole in the wall (covered by a sheet) dividing their two rooms when he went to check on Mikado today. As it stands... well. Well. There's a few possible conclusions, and they all fly into his head: kidnapped, kidnapped by someone else? Seduced-? all of them leave a foul taste in his mouth. Thus, eventually, he flips open the journal. His tone is flat, with an unhidden hint of threat in it-]

Have any of you seen Mikado Ryuugamine?

[... But he's too antsy to focus on just that. Instead, he's going to hit up all the likely hang outs- he's going to hit up all of the friends of Mikado's he knows the house/apart numbers of. Archie Kennedy, Anne, Shuri, Selphie. For good measure, he then will go to people he wonders might be useful - the clinic to see if he can't find Law-san or someone else there and then around to look for Shikamaru, even though he doesn't know where he lives. By the end of the day, he's just going to be looking in the windows of all the houses he can, and then going to the apartment doors of everyone he can and knocking on their door... progressively feeling more and more like hitting someone or something.

SO UH. Run unto him wherever ! He's feeling insane]

Far as I can tell, I'm the only one who's actually going to ask it. [A little more pressure against his wrist.] Stop being a coward and answer the damn question.

If they can resolve this without having to fight, that'd be great. Shikamaru is keeping his guard up all the same. He doesn't say anything else for a while, letting him think.]

That was never a question, Shikamaru-kun.

Good. And I assume the reverse of that is true too?

[That is to say, does the same go for Mikado, regardless of where he is?]

Then stop thinking you need him here. He's your friend, not your crutch. I'm not saying that nothing changes without him [That'd be like saying Shikamaru would still have a social life with Chouji or Katara in this place.], or that you should just give up on finding him. Maybe he'll show up around here after all. Or maybe you'll have to wait until you're back in your world to see him again.

Whichever it is, you can trust him to be your friend wherever. And that doesn't change either.

[THIS FACE through that whole speech. Even if he listens, he might look like he didn't. He does listen though he just... doesn't- well to say he doesn't care is a falsehood, he twitches a bit at a lot of those points and finally, when Shikamaru's done]

[Shikamaru might not be the strongest person there is, but you can't be a ninja on smarts alone. His hand budges forward some, but he responds by making his grip tighter. There's enough pressure to hurt now.]

And you haven't -[yanking is hand again, this time with more force. Before he was just trying to pull off, now he's okay if it overbalances Shikamaru or whatever. Even if it might not because, lol, triceps] let go.

[Rather than fight it, he just steps in with it as opposed to being yanked forward. It's better than straining his grip.]

[More pressure. And while he has a retort to that, he keeps it to himself. Masaomi called them comrades. Maybe he said it because he thought it would help him get his way - and Shikamaru could even believe it, if that's the case.

But where Shikamaru comes from, that's not a word you throw around him. You call him your friend, then he's going to damn well be your friend. Even if it might not seem like it.]

[He brings up his other hand to point at him, finger in front of his face.] So if you need to fight someone, Masaomi, fight me.

[ . . . Anger rising even more. He bristles and his eyes go a little wide. He shouts this]

I never said anything about fighting, I'm looking for my friend!

[and in the aftermath his grits his teeth]

And not finding him, like I bet a lot of people have told you that you wouldn't already.

So. What?! I'm not just going to stop right now!

Not the point, idiot. [Not that he thinks explaining it to him will help much. Better to keep trying to push his buttons.] Even if they're probably right.

Ah? [And now the teeth clenching stops - a sick little smile plays on his lips instead]

Ah, you think so? So what?

[He notes the change in attitude - possibly getting somewhere now? There's a lot about Masaomi that Shikamaru just plain doesn't know about. But there's something unbalanced there - he got the gist of that from what Katara told him and how he saw Masaomi act during the draft, when lives were at stake. It's a lot to read into, but he understands that that's only scraping just beneath the surface when it comes to this sort of thing.]

Keep saying that, like it makes a difference. [His tone is bored; unmoved.]

If you don't care, just let me go.

[There's one more tug, but this is at the end of his patience. The smile - which never quite met his eyes - fades, and now he just frowns]

[Shikamaru's expression remains more or less a blank slate. He doesn't say anything to that - nothing to say to that at this point. But he doesn't let go either.]
