So, who here's heard of dinosaurs?

[ He's been reading Michael Crichton lately, sue him. Also, he genuinely wonders how many not-Earth people have, given a lot of animals do seem similar between a lot of worlds, but... dinosaurs though. ]

[ Well, there are normal staples of Masaomi's day: you can see him working the Convenience Store if you want, you can see him shopping for clothes, you can see him in the library (perhaps picking up some books in the aforementioned dinosaurs), or training (in a tank top and shorts) at the Battle Dome. At the end of the day you might also see him going to HQ for the end of the night.

But... something else is at the Dome today fore someone who wants special stuff. Namely, once he's tired and sweaty and Linda has worked herself hard, Masaomi is still using his room, but he's using it to project images of all sorts of dinosaurs based on a picture book that he picked up at the library. To see them in motion, because why wouldn't you try to do something like that? ]

Nightmare and dream dinosaurs. The big difference between the two is that the Spirits tend to be more colorful. We're talking bright reds, blues, pinks, and oranges...

Nightmares are colorful, sure, but instead of eating sweets or playing with balloons, they'd rather stomp, roast, or eat you.

And what, are the two of them at war with each other and our esteemed master here is the grand negotiator?

War's probably not the best way of putting it. Don't get me wrong, the Nightmares were a problem, but most of the Spirits were made from the dream pieces and recipes I picked up along the way, so it wasn't like there was this big, ongoing battle.

And I guess if you want to get technical, I became one.

A Spirit, I mean. Not a dinosaur.

[ Hah ] I'd be surprised if you became a dinosaur.

[ Still, Spirits and Nightmares and dreams with recipes. That sort of life is very fanciful. ]

Well, Sora's turned into a lion before. It could happen.

[And how's that for fanciful? Dreams, nightmares, recipes, and... transformations. The KHverse is a trippy place.]

Yep. He went to this world full of talking lions, and when you're traveling the worlds, you kind of want to blend in. Otherwise it'll raise a lot of uncomfortable questions.

You know, Riku-san, you have this uncanny ability to say the most absurd sounding things with a straight face. It's impressive.

Absurd to you, but talking lions are tame compared to some of the stuff we've dealt with. Like getting trapped inside a giant whale in space.

A giant whale in-- [ Okay no, he snickers, and then breaks out laughing ] Oh man, oh man! I'm serious, Riku-san! I'm in awe of these things for you!

Is it really that crazy compared to this world? I figured all the Shifts would even things out.

[After all, it's not like they make much more sense than space whales and talking wildlife.]

Mmmm, more like I've come to expect that this world is outlandish and terrible. But to hear that some other world - no, universe of worlds also have an outlandish logic that bonds them all together? That's something I don't think I ever expected to hear.

Well, it's not all fun and games. Sure, it's exciting getting to go out there and see new sights, but we also have to deal with the consequences. Monsters that feed on people's hearts. An Organization of empty shells that tried to seize the ultimate power. An old man obsessed with knowledge and war who'd force people into being his vessels...

So, we have talking lions and space whales, but we also have all of that to put up with.

[ Eeeeesh. Well he did know they had the darkness monster things, but Riku just trying to slam the seriousness on him does make him briefly uncomfortable, then he pushes past it, but then he's not quite sure where to go and he shrugs a bit ]

Maaaah. Well, everywhere's got its downsides, I suppose.

True. And I'd like to think the pros outweigh the cons. I mean, who wouldn't want to go out and visit strange new worlds?

[And at that, he pauses, because with that in mind...]

Guess that's one upside to the missions here. Getting to break out of the cage.

One of many, yeah. There's more dangers, but there's plenty of benefits to them. [ A beat, and ] What's got missions on your mind, chief?

Just... guess I'm getting a little stir crazy. I just don't know if it's worth working for them. How do you guys even put up with it?

Who is them?

The Malnosso. Aren't they the ones running the whole operation?

[Missions, that is. And that's where his hesitance lies.]

But who is "them" - [ and he sighs a little here, and he runs a hand through his hair ] Come on, man, you've been here years. You've gotta know how big the Organization is. You ask me? I'll work with the MSF and MARS until the cows come home and then rot. But you want me to work with the Science Division? The Rogues? Intelligence? Man, I'd punch them before I'd consider it.

...True.

[Heh. So maybe he shouldn't have over generalized.]

So it's all about picking the right missions. Is that it?

[Because, in that case, maybe it's not so bad after all.]

Technically, all missions are done through MARS. Most of them are working with the MSF because... well, drafts speak for themselves for Luceti's ability to get results there, and the world's at war. You meet with Research and Science in some of them, but even those people seem fairly legit.

Put in other terms: there's no basic mission I'd specifically dissuade people from.

Hmm... Then maybe I should give it a shot sometime. Got any recommendations for a first timer?

Mmm. I think the Sailor missions are pretty solid. Technically it's skilled, but they'll walk you through it.

Hey, how hard can it be? I'll read over the mission info, see if I can get an idea of what I'm getting into.

Anything I should know in advance? I can probably wing it, but it never hurts to have an edge.
