This post here is for personal conversations which should happen but one or both of us doesn't want to put up a new post/log and thus we will just thread it out here. This can be used to thread with Masaomi anytime and anywhere. This can either be in person (with action), or via the journal's call feature (voice and/or written).

What counts as pulled off?

Okay liiiisten up, Shikamaru! To pull off a kiss like that, you need three major things!

[He points at him. Point, point!]

One, you need dramatic enemies on all sides.
Second, you need to give a kiss which totally says "shut up woman."
Third, it needs to still be romantic despite that.

[...one corner of his mouth twitches, then upturns, and it stays like that.

He feels so fucking cool right now.]

[SAY NOTHING, because he's not the type to brag.

But he knows he fulfilled at least two of those. And remembering how he held her, and how she pulled him closer, how for a moment she wasn't all edges but gentle...

He laughs, sincerely happy for at least this moment. He'll never know without asking her, but he likes to think he fulfilled that third requirement too.

He remembers Masaomi is still there after a moment though, and gets his head out of the clouds.]

Maa, maa. You should know better than anyone in this room, shouldn't you?

It's not about looking cool.

No! It is completely about looking cool! [In fact, he stands, waving his arms to confirm the point]

[More than love? Something that could happen someday?

He doesn't think he's ready to admit that one yet though, least of all to anyone else when he can't figure it out himself.]

I never cared for that kind of thinking. I mean, if it works out like that it works out, and I don't mind it...

You can only say that because you are cool!

[Now he's just whining. Pettily.]

Your story is changing. [He yawns.] I'm just being me, besides. It's not like I know shit about these things.

[Because really. Can you see him knowing how to handle any other part of the relationship? Until two days ago he didn't even know he could manage that much.]

Just like being clean.

HE lounges a bit though]

[Siiigh.

He's still kind of half-slouched from before and attempts to prop himself up with the one elbow. He's not very coordinated right now so it takes a couple tries to sit back up. But A for Effort.

[Masaomi groans. If he's going to be like that... He stands himself, wincing a bit as he gets to his feet and then offers his friend a hand up]

[Shikamaru takes it with relief, plainly grateful.] Thanks.

[When he's up he puts a hand on Masaomi's shoulder to steady himself, then frowns and leaves it there for a moment. Not walking off just yet.]

How are you? Really?

[It's a question he's gone back and forth on asking. Some of it is obvious - that Masaomi is clean makes the fatigue on his face stand out more. He knows not all of it can be from fighting.

Skills and abilities are obvious. Sometimes, though, he has to remind himself that his friends aren't ninjas in any sense. Masaomi included.]

[He's silent, just a moment. He wants to retort: How are you? But instead, he just...]

Does your academy prepare you for burning corpses, Shikamaru? Those last three days, I had to burn them do they wouldn't get up and kill us.

[Yes. But it didn't mean anything, every time he's been around one or touched one, or done it himself. So he doesn't say that.]

If you were hoping for tips, they don't have any good ones.

[His hand is heavier though, holding Masaomi's shoulder because he can't share his sympathy in words.]

Aaah. I sort of figured.

[With... a light smile. Which doesn't have anything to do with anything, but it's easy, really, to smile]

[Anything he could say to that is just pretty words.]

[I lost all of them in the woods.

I met with Mashiro Hyuuga.

I forgive Riku-kun and Temari-san.]

I'm surprisingly too tired to get excited for Katara saying "yes."

[And he's almost too tired to get that, blinking like he's lost until his brain backtracks to fingernail jewelry and further from there until he gets it. He does smile then, a little. Genuine.]

I'd be happier for you both [because that says so much for Katara, doesn't it?] if I didn't know you well enough to tell when you're running away from the subject.

But it's okay. [He loosens his grip enough to pat Masaomi's shoulder.] I don't need to know it to see how much is there now...

Give me some credit... love is a leveler, after all.

[With a bit of a laugh.]

Mm. [Another shoulder pat; movement for the sake of movement to wake himself up a little.] So. Terms?

It's "only one date," we're not dating, and it can't be this week.

Wow. She's being generous.

I know, right? I might even get a kiss within the month.
