[.......Wait what?

Masaomi wakes up on the 19th (post event), and starts his day as normal (well aside from waking up a bit later than normal) until he realizes WAIT, WHAT about two or three different things all at once. He promptly gives up any semblance of a normal morning, instead opens his journal and writes/draws the following entry:]

What can any of you tell me about this [arrow up to the Luffy sketch] guy?

Is he suave?

That experiment was a "lie" - there wasn't something there before, yeah... but. That "lie" shows what could have been. What could still be. As I recall, there was things unsaid with you and Chouji last time... there's more to be said about my own emotions.

[A beat]

...Maaah, even I don't know what I mean. But accepting it as "nothing was true" and dismissing it just seems wrong to me. Love is a Leveler, after all. There's something new that Luffy guy will see in you and something new you will see in him.

[She shakes her head which - is kind of ridiculous from her position, really, so she ends up straightening.]

Even if we see something new as a result of the experience... that wasn't really 'me' and that wasn't really 'Luffy.' There was trust there which we haven't developed, there was a whole history of fights and resolutions and firsts - it was just one possibility of how things could have been with two other people who were a lot like who we really are... but who weren't. They were shadows and fakes, and real enough in their own way... but she wasn't me. I just have her memories. She's part of me now. But it wasn't real, not in the same way that my friendship with Luffy is real.

[He considers a moment. What she's saying... makes sense. It makes more sense than he's prepared to deny under the circumstances. But in the end...

I love you]

What about you and me?

[She goes still for a moment, her throat tightening. But she doesn't look away from him, and tilts her head in inquiry.]

What about us?

[What part are you asking about?]

What about that phantom?

[She's still not exactly sure what he's asking but - still holding herself very still, she gives a minute shake of her head.]

It's just the same. 'She' wasn't really 'me.' 'He' wasn't really 'you.' Their memories are part of us now, too. But our friendship is more real than those memories, just the same.

Now we just... [shrug] acknowledge that they're memories.

[...Mm] Alright, then what do you think of "him?"

[Blink.]

Masaomi, I barely knew him!

[Partially a stall, yes, partially just - searching out what it is that he's asking her.]

[A very, very forced smile comes onto his lips]

Still long enough to make an impression.

[She sees that smile. And sighs.]

Why are you asking me this?

[The forced smile grows] Does~ it matter?

Yes. [Frown.] And stop that.

How does it matter?!

[Forced laugh and dismissive hand wave]

If you want me to answer your question, then you'll answer mine.

Because I know what "she" thought of "him." So what do "you" think of "him?"

[Sorry, she's going to be a pain about it.]

[Okay, it hasn't been long enough since the last time he's said that that she's forgotten what happened right after. And, yes, it causes her to drop her gaze and blush.]

[But she struggles through it and lifts up her gaze quickly enough.]

No, I'm being serious. I want you to give me a real answer.

Mmm, how about I give you a real answer when you give me yours?

[In fact, he's going to lean in further]

[She's a bit wide-eyed at his proximity now, and her gaze flickers to his lips for a moment before she returns it to his eyes for a long moment.]

All right, but not because you're bullying me into it - there really isn't much to tell. You can lean back now.

[Tilting his head to the side. Smiling]

[...and she really can't help but remember, how he'd tilted his head to the side, just like that, before he'd lowered his head down and kissed her like he'd had the right, and all the time in the world.

And her eyes widen with that memory again for a moment before she rolls them up and sighs.]
