[.......Wait what?

Masaomi wakes up on the 19th (post event), and starts his day as normal (well aside from waking up a bit later than normal) until he realizes WAIT, WHAT about two or three different things all at once. He promptly gives up any semblance of a normal morning, instead opens his journal and writes/draws the following entry:]

What can any of you tell me about this [arrow up to the Luffy sketch] guy?

Is he suave?

Hm. [He considers a moment. He looks to Linda and then back to her. How does he put this... lightly.] Is a "lie" not real?

It's a real lie.

Ahh.... maybe, but. [A pause, and then in a somewhat more somber tone] That's a fallacy, Katara.

[She shifts to look up at him, waiting for the forthcoming explanation while holding herself together as best as she can.]

A "lie" is as real as people accept it to be.

[And he levels a dramatic "point" to go with this. At his own heart]

So for us, all of us, that is - a "lie" doesn't make it not real. The feelings, the memories.

[She shakes her head.]

But it does make it not true.

[And she returns her attention to her knees.]

It wasn't our hearts' choice, or an act of our will or... any real attraction or feelings. The memories might be there, but it was something forced on us.

[She swallows hard.] So even if it leaves you empty afterwards...

[Bite your lip. Close your eyes. Shake your head and don't cry.

Breathe.]

It's different if the experiment shows you something about someone that you hadn't seen before before - if it leaves you confused - that's something else. But there's nothing real, nothing true about last week.

[She looks up at him, surprised by his vulgarity, but unyielding.]

It's not easy. It's easier. [And groans here, shifting his sitting position. Linda, not sure who to side with here, just stands awkwardly between them. Humans. Man you're silly.]

There's nothing easy about being in love and then having it vanish. But, then... love's odd. [a beat] Love's the most common thing in the world.

[...what are you even saying? She huffs a little, exasperated, tense, and... tired. So bone-weary.]

I'm not even sure we're talking about the same thing anymore.

[He shifts again. There, better position]

[She just moves now to rest her head against her knees, but she tilts it to the side so she's still looking at him. She's tired and she doesn't really want to fight - so she'll listen, for now, if he wants to explain anything about why he thought what she was saying was bullshit.]

That experiment was a "lie" - there wasn't something there before, yeah... but. That "lie" shows what could have been. What could still be. As I recall, there was things unsaid with you and Chouji last time... there's more to be said about my own emotions.

[A beat]

...Maaah, even I don't know what I mean. But accepting it as "nothing was true" and dismissing it just seems wrong to me. Love is a Leveler, after all. There's something new that Luffy guy will see in you and something new you will see in him.

[She shakes her head which - is kind of ridiculous from her position, really, so she ends up straightening.]

Even if we see something new as a result of the experience... that wasn't really 'me' and that wasn't really 'Luffy.' There was trust there which we haven't developed, there was a whole history of fights and resolutions and firsts - it was just one possibility of how things could have been with two other people who were a lot like who we really are... but who weren't. They were shadows and fakes, and real enough in their own way... but she wasn't me. I just have her memories. She's part of me now. But it wasn't real, not in the same way that my friendship with Luffy is real.

[He considers a moment. What she's saying... makes sense. It makes more sense than he's prepared to deny under the circumstances. But in the end...

I love you]

What about you and me?

[She goes still for a moment, her throat tightening. But she doesn't look away from him, and tilts her head in inquiry.]

What about us?

[What part are you asking about?]

What about that phantom?

[She's still not exactly sure what he's asking but - still holding herself very still, she gives a minute shake of her head.]

It's just the same. 'She' wasn't really 'me.' 'He' wasn't really 'you.' Their memories are part of us now, too. But our friendship is more real than those memories, just the same.

Now we just... [shrug] acknowledge that they're memories.

[...Mm] Alright, then what do you think of "him?"
