This post here is for personal conversations which should happen but one or both of us doesn't want to put up a new post/log and thus we will just thread it out here. This can be used to thread with Masaomi anytime and anywhere. This can either be in person (with action), or via the journal's call feature (voice and/or written).

[He'll feel better about it when he gets him started on a different exercise in a month or so, seemingly earlier than expected. But that's neither here nor there yet. \

He sprawls back again his log and watches what bit of the sky he can see through the branches. After a few moments, this is offered:]

It's always weird, getting back to routine.

Eh?

[A curious sound? Masaomi's head leans up a bit to get a better look at shikamaru]

You know, after stupid experiments. [Handwave. It really throws a guy off, though.]

[And now his eyes narrow.

...Oh. he never did ask]

How'd it go with Ariel?

...pretty good, actually. [Surprises. Last year with Temari was awkward as hell.] It was weird at first, but she took it well.

Ah, I'm glad to hear it.

[Sincerely]

How 'bout you?

I think my disaster was pretty public.

Yeah, couple days back. I hope you're doing better now, anyways.

[There is a question in here somewhere, because some days Masaomi's harder to read than others.]

Maah.

[He smiles a little, to himself. No, he still made a mess about Luffy which he knows he's going to end up paying for somehow. But... with Katara herself it worked out mostly okay]

I see.

[If something had gone wrong beyond repair on Katara's end, he figures he would've heard about it already. Masaomi's general mood the past few days indicated it hadn't. But whatever was big enough to bother him...

Shikamaru taps his fingers against his knee, in a rhythm without rhyme or reason.] I owe you a few apologies.

[He's not sure if he even cares to know. But that's not the real problem with his role here.]

[...What? Now Masaomi's eyes widen in surprise because that he does not understand. If anything, he owes apologies]

How do you figure?

When Gold was coming over...

[No, he's still looking at the clouds. Shikamaru's fingers stop tapping now. What kind of half-assed way is that to handle things? He brings his head back down to earth, focus sliding back to his friend over there, and then continues.]

I knew something was bugging you, but I ditched you anyways. I'm sorry for that.

[... Hah.

He shakes his head] That's not something I'm going to fault you for. You had your own problems and it's not like I did anything for them.

[Shikamaru tilts his head at this.]

Like 'you scratch my back, I scratch yours'? [He shakes his head.] This isn't an equal exchange system. Friendship doesn't work like that.

[Doesn't work in a lot of ways. He still has one apology to go.]

...not that I have room to lecture on it.

Hah. Masaomi shifts, somewhat uncomfortable a moment and then throws the snack bag at his head] Lecture all you want, sensei.

[Flatly:] Maybe later.

[He doesn't catch the bag, just tilts his head out of the way so it doesn't hit. He'll put it away later.]

The other apology for something I did afterwards. After Law dropped you off the other night, I looked at your journal. [...] You'd left it out.

[He doesn't say that as an excuse - it was out, but it wasn't open.

And this isn't a minor thing like ditching him was. Shikamaru watches him carefully now, anticipating a different reaction to that.]

[ Oh.

That's a violation, isn't it? It has to be. His private business. Those conversations. To be fair, he would have talked about most of them to Shikamaru later, but... even so to have it direct like this. His face goes blank because he's not sure how to even feel about this one]

[He normally wouldn't have done it. No one's business is necessarily their own around a ninja, but Masaomi's one of the few people in Luceti who's gained that respect of privacy from Shikamaru.

Except he broke it. On an impulse, and his reasons are flimsy even to him.]

I'd tell you why, but it'd just amount to a lame excuse. [He sighs, and it's not an exaggerated one like usual.] It won't happen again.

No, let's hear it.

[The excuse, that is. He wasn't being sensible that day. He didn't expect a ton of privacy from Shikamaru, who can run informational circles around him. He finds its actually this admission which is eating him the most]

[Shikamaru huffs once, looking unimpressed, not that he thinks he has the right to. But admitting it is actually embarrassing for him for the exact reasons he said: it doesn't excuse it. And more than that, to him it was childish. Not something that fits with the image he's set himself to live up to.

But at the same time, neither is withholding it for petty reasons like that. It's why he spoke up in the first place. So after a moment of making sure Masaomi is serious...]

I wanted to know why you went out. [If you recall, he did say that he didn't look until after Masaomi was already back.] It bothered me.

And what'd you conclude was my reason?

Heh... [There's no humor here.] That's between you and Katara, isn't it?

Maybe. [A beat] I'd like to think it wasn't a waste.
