[Shikamaru and Masaomi have tag-teamed to procure the items. Their quest begins later on, as they allowed for a number of days for preparation and quietly looking around/enjoying the sights before then.

At Shikamaru's suggestion, the first days of the scavenger hunt are spent in observation rather than gathering items. CJ let it drop there was a five day allotment and that they had to keep the items the entire time; waiting just seemed smart.

So they get started on the second to last day. At the Space Opera they have some Tang and trade something that is distinctly not Tang for some ray guns. For the robot, they found something even more effective than an off switch. Who knew flights of stairs would be so deadly?

From there they swipe a jetpack and head to the Shogunate. Neither one of them are manly enough to take on a samurai in pitched combat, so they resort the theft. Or rather Hidan does. While the angry samurai are off looking for him, they'll meet and greet some kappa. Masaomi uses the powers of meta to get the water from their heads.

In Gangland, they dress up some energy drinks as booze in exchange for the tommy guns. While the gangsters there are distracted by that, Linda uses the powers of attraction to get some studebaker keys.

At The Nile, having caught on to the priest's weakness to cute things, they take advantage of small children for the daggers. They face the traps for the treasure with the powers of Rube Goldberg.

The Ice Age is last. Their grand plan to defeat a smilodon?? ...feed it. The cavemen going to war, meanwhile, are happy to exchange their bone spears for the retractable spears Hidan Shikamaru has for them. With little time left until the scavenger hunt ends, the rest is a popcorn fest.

Threads for seeing them pull off any of these ten capers or being involved in them are first-come, first-serve (put the item in the subject head or body of the reply if you want) but if you want to just encounter them in the periods between any of them in any zone or after they complete them all, hanging out somewhere... maybe even run into them while lost in C1 if they're at their apartment, those are unlimited. As this is a joint post, all replies will be from Masaomi and Shikamaru (endgames)]

Let's go for kappa hunting in the Shogunate!

[Having spent a considerable portion of his life in Japan, Gai is familiar with all of the folklore surrounding kappa-- something that is definitely going to come in handy for this. He certainly looks the part right now, hair tied back in a high ponytail and a jar dangling from a makeshift rope belt.

When he spots the other two prize hunters, he grins, nodding his head just slightly in greeting.]

Oh? I can't say I'm surprised to see the two of you here.

Gai --> Shikamaru --> Masaomi

[Shikamaru's looking distinctly more ninja-ish, surprise surprise.]

I am.

[He notably already has his (samurai) sword. Sigh. This was saved for last because Masaomi said he had an idea that would make it easy.]

[Masaomi also matches Shikamaru. Also has his sword. And sort of sighs as he shrugs a bit]

I'm surprised we're still here.

Having that much trouble with the kappa?

[He doubts it, though. Masaomi is Japanese; he should be familiar with the tales.]

[He doesn't think it'll be that troublesome, but Masaomi hasn't explained it to him yet.]

Oh yes, terribly. I'm going to die, it's so hard.

Then I'm sure you won't mind if I claim half of your prizes in advance just as a precaution.

Not necessary. [His tone is unusually harsh.] He knows what he's doing. If that's really a precaution, it's retarded.

[Either way, both of its implications piss him off. Shikamaru turns to walk down the path without another word - he thinks he heard a kappa farting this way and some girls shrieking.]

...Gai-san, no one likes you. You know that, right?

[He shrugs now, and follows along with Shikamaru. He's just rolling his eyes, honestly.]

I'd be more concerned about that if I'd planned on entering any popularity contests here.

[Don't mind him following along, more out of curiosity than because he needs their help getting the water-- he can manage that part on their own. He just wants to see if THEY can.]

[endgames]

[The path slopes downwards, and yup. Looks like theirs some kappa down there near the river. Shikamaru stops at a distance, not giving a shit who tags along because he just wants to get this done, and takes a small container from a pouch sewn into his clothes. Here you go, Masaomi.]

[Masaomi takes it and then goes up to the kappa is being survey and generally difficult and surly. Masaomi goes up to the person with a bag in his hand and then offers a token greeting, asking him how the weather is. The Kappa actually answers, and so begins a token Japanese conversation, circular in nature and largely about nothing]

[voidseeing]

[Ah, so he's going the polite route rather than the pulling its arm off or wrestling with it route. Probably more productive, anyway.

Gai will just stand and watch for now, curious to see how this goes.]

[endgames]

[Shikamaru watches with his hands in his pockets. That's not the kind of reaction he was expecting from the kappa, but it's interesting. What a surprising personality. Maybe it'd be like so...]

[This conversation lasts... frankly, unreasonably long. First about the weather, then about how there's this guy named Hidan causing problems, and the kappa says he hasn't heard of him, but like to meet him! And then, finally, Masaomi goes to say goodbye. When he does, he bows, lightly but relatively deep. The kappa, for his part, returns the gesture...!

...And pouts his water into the pouch Masaomi put under his head when he bowed.

Masaomi cackles then as he leaps back from the shocked and more than a little delirious looking kappa]

[Just as he'd expected. And now he knows for sure that this method works on the kappas here-- not a bad deal on his end.]

You know your folklore, I'll give you that.

[endgames]

[It makes instant sense now, and Shikamaru grins with a swell of quiet pride.]

Should've known you'd get it out of some book.

Be cool man, be cool.

[But he hands over the water bag to Shikamaru now, when he's back]

It's an old Japanese legend. Of course, there are some parts of it that aren't nearly as innocuous as just tricking them into spilling water from their heads. We can hope the Malnosso left those sections out.

[Shikamaru takes out another glass, and puts the first away with a lid on it to keep it safe.]

Just gonna leave that part blank?

[...Maybe they could split that one cup. Would that be cheating?]

There are stories of kappa having kidnapped children and drowned people, but given that the creatures themselves are legends, how much stock you put in those tales is up to you.

[He hums. And decides he doesn't care much, if it's not immediately going to effect them.]

[WELP. Let's go then. Whether elsewhere or towards that other Kappa. They probably could split the water.]
