This post here is for personal conversations which should happen but one or both of us doesn't want to put up a new post/log and thus we will just thread it out here. This can be used to thread with Masaomi anytime and anywhere. This can either be in person (with action), or via the journal's call feature (voice and/or written).

Return from the Battle of Vaskoth

[Aang decides to take a break from trick-or-treat protocol to go check on Masaomi - deciding to go separately from Ikki because of the potential subject matter. He air scoots his way over, in full Aladdin get-up, to make sure he's okay and try to check up on things. Hearing about Steve the other morning was bad enough. He calls out as he approaches]

Masaomi!

[generalflirt]

Hey, hey, my young Avatar.

[He rips his eyes from the sky and waves a little at Aang as he scoots over]

Hey! Are you alright?

[He's relieved enough to see Masaomi's okay that, as he hops down from the scooter, he'll provide a quick hug (first hug?!)]

[...Wow he did not see that hug coming. He doesn't reciprocate (seriously dude, we're men) but he smiles a bit before flicking him on the ear]

I survived, anyway.

[He wasn't sure if he was breaking the bro code that Shikamaru had taught him - but this felt like a special occasion. He winces slightly at the ear-flick but with a light-hearted smile.]

I'm glad. After everything else, it's... good news.

[generalflirt]

Yeup. And they even found a cure for that disease. All the infected people who didn't have their organs melt'll be through in a few hours, I bet.

[But... he still sounds somber. Finding a cure was great. Amazing. But... did it make it worth it?]

[But he focuses on the news.]

A cure? That's great Masaomi! [Well the organ melting part is gross. So he tries to gloss over that.] Do you know who's been getting the cure? Have you seen Robin? [And part of him feels doubt. Was it truly wrong... could they have just held Moro off for longer, and she could have been cured?]

Who the heck's Robin?

[Gosh guy, he doesn'--- waaaait] Oh, the mask guy?

Y-yeah. I wore a costume like his in m-my first experiment. There's actually two of them now, but did you see him? Was he getting the cure?

[generalflirt]

[... He feels like that would have stood out. He bites his lip and thinks.]

I don't know, maybe. I don't think I remember seeing the guy, but that doesn't rule him out.

[savedtheworld]

[He calms himself down.]

Oh... okay. The other Robin was looking out for him, so... so I'm sure he got him to the cure. A- and they're sneaky, so they might've gotten in without being seen. Yeah, I bet that's what happened.

[generalflirt]

Maaaah. You'll see in a few hours, either way. I bet they want to keep them in holding to make sure it works 100%. That sun'll be down by then, and these ladies- [Ikki, Grune... Helios clearly doesn't count okok] Probably will go home, eh?

[savedtheworld]

I don't know. They are pretty determined to greet everyone coming back. But I'll make sure Ikki doesn't stay out late anyway.

[generalflirt]

Hoooh, too late for her then? It makes sense.

[savedtheworld]

Yeah, she's still little! Bedtimes and everything. [Pause] I just might stay up a little later. Make sure everyone gets back safe.

[generalflirt]

Unless they're dead, of course. [Quietly. It's not a pleasant thought, but he's still not positive Ven is a alive]

[savedtheworld]

[His head sinks, and he speaks quietly himself.]

Right. Yeah.

[generalflirt]

Mmm. Just so you know, if you would have stayed, you'd be dead too.

[savedtheworld]

[And he finds himself looking at Masaomi with worried eyes just as he says that. Sure, he had realized it was likely, and Shikamaru and others had definitely seemed concerned for his survival. Even before that power cap he heard about happened. But hearing it spelled in such plain terms... he can only stare at Masaomi for now.]

[generalflirt]

[He isn't looking at Aang. He's looking up at the sun, marveling about how much he missed it] Bending is your birthright, it's as breathing to you in the same way electricity is to Linda. But mid-way through one of those later days, those with those blessings had them stripped way entirely. You can correct me if I'm wrong, I guess, but I don't think that's a battle for you.

[He pauses...]

So... basically. Thanks for leaving earlier.

[He doesn't know for sure he did, but he did in how he was waiting here]

[He gulps and takes a moment to weigh Masaomi's words.]

You're right.

I've tried to train in fighting without my bending. But... I'm nowhere near as good. It's not the same. I don't think I can make it for long in a real battle with just my tonfas and what my body can do by itself. And in a place like that? ...Definitely not.

I didn't plan on leaving. I didn't want to run away. You should thank Shikamaru. And Mia. They helped me to realize that, that I'd done all I could. Even before the power cap when up... they saw I couldn't go on against those kinds of enemies. Fighting this kind of war. And I'm sure y-you'd say the same, if we saw each other that day.

[generalflirt]

Mm...

[...] I don't know if I would, Aang-kun. I might think it, but someone who I have complete confidence in has something like absolute faith in you. I owe "that person" enough to not doubt you convictions.

[And he smiles] Of course, it might be insulting for me to call you a hero.

[savedtheworld]

Oh. [He blinks. This has something to do with Katara doesn't it.] But... Even people with that much faith in me can still tell when I'm doing too much and- and not thinking right. My... limits, I guess.

[And he's a bit more puzzled at the hero thing, misunderstanding right.] Yeah? I... wasn't really a hero out there. It's only harder to be try to one in this world.

[generalflirt]

On the contrary, being a "hero" is easy here. It's cheap, too. Really cheap, probably not even worth five hundred yen.

[And he claps Aang now-- on the head. As best he can, he tries to palm the bald dome, brushing it with his fingers]

But being an Avatar, man? I bet that's real hard.

[savedtheworld]

[He doesn't really follow Masaomi's 'hero' stuff. And the hand on the head is kind of weird. He raises his eyes to look up at Masaomi's arm. But that second sentence? Sounds like the clearest thing Masaomi's ever said to him.]

It is. I mean... it was hard back home, too, a lot of the time, but it's different here. I don't think that being in a different world means I don't have to be the Avatar anymore, but... I don't know how to help this world. Or... or most of you. [Even all of his closest friends felt beyond his grip often.]
