[Masaomi, back from his mission steps up out of the tunnels... tired. He's quite tired, as is Linda (who is resting her pokeball which is clipped onto his vest. He has on the ninja flak vest he borrow from Shikamaru forever ago and also looks a bit beat up. Some of his sleeves are torn as are his pants. He has some cuts, some bruises, and some burns, not all of them healed but some of them healing. He also has one of his collapseable batons in his hand. Aside from this, his muscle build up is more obvious but-

But something different about the image - despite all that and the rain and the injuries, he's laughing once he looks up at the sky. Stronger. Stronger. He already feels it. Well, no time like the present, despite his tired he's going out to accomplish a few things. First is actually to go pick up something to drink from the grocery and pick something up from the item shop (feel free to run into him at either of those) and head over to Mikado's apartment. It's an important day, after all, and he did not want to blow him off for it. Besides, if he heads there now, he might make it as the guy is coming back to school and he might run into him before then.

After that, well, he'll spend his day with Mikado until that night (though anyone can run into him before then). This'll last until about 8PM, when he's going to be going to hang out just inside the battle dome for a reason which might obvious to a lot of people. (and no, he still has not changed his clothes, even if he might have cleaned up the more obvious injuries). And after whatever comes of that, he's going to go back to his apartment to meet up with his roommate and anyone he didn't run into through the rest of the day before finally popping open the journal.]

[Voice]

Masaomi Kida has returned!! I hope you all didn't miss me too dearly!! [Okay so he's tried and running on caffeine by now, but he's still grinning ear to ear] Some rain out there today, and man is it wet- [he resists saying "ladies I hope you didn't get too wet if you saw me today" but it's hard. He laughs to himself at that joke despite not saying] You can tell the sky's telling us something though, riiight? We're approaching spring, a time of love and lust and all between! So sound off!! Whooooo's got a special someone? Who's got a crush? You can trust me, I'm a Love Machine.

[Laughing at this, once more]

So ladies... and gentlemen. Don't speak up all at once.

Shikamaru opens his mouth to say something, then pauses. Screw it, he'll be lazy. He brings one hand up in a seal.]

I'm gonna show you what he looks like. Memorize it.

[Blink. He glances at Linda to tell her to memorize it too]

[There's a quick puff of smoke, and then ala the transformation jutsu, Shikamaru takes on the appearance of Tobi.]

He's calling himself Tobi. [That's said with his normal voice. With the next line, he uses the jutsu to talk like the man he's imitating.] To be safe, this is how he speaks too.

[He'll hold the form long enough for them both to get a good look.]

...And he wears that mask?

[Linda nods. Okay! Someone to fight!

...When she's less hungry]

Yeah. [Normal voice again.] And acts like a buffoon.

[He releases the jutsu and crosses his legs.] But that's all it is. In reality, he's one of the greatest threats of my world right now.

There's someone like that here?

[Should he... do something....??]

I doubt he's the first such person, the way this place works. [He used to maintain the list of suspicious people in Luceti, after all. He's grateful he got rid of it now.]

But back home, he showed up in a room with the five most powerful shinobi leaders and declared war on their countries. My village was preparing for that war when I left, so he's to be taken seriously.

[But...] At the same time, as we are now, we're unprepared to handle him in Luceti. It would in fact be more damaging to try. So don't get any funny ideas, okay?

Mmm. [He nods. He wants to act already, but with that sort of scale... he understands he's probably - no, definitely - outclasses her. Linda looks more put out than he is, honestly]

[He sighs, then finishes up the least of his scrolls. Should he ask...? He may as well. Now's the best time.]

There is something you can help me with, though. If you're not up for it, don't be afraid to tell me. I'd rather you say so.

[No, shaking his head] No, anything for you.

[...that sounded gay]

[Shikamaru wishes he wouldn't do that, and slides his chin to sit in one hand. At the same time it's why he chose to ask him, isn't it?]

If I could go back to my world, there's potential that I could dig up more information on this man. I don't like the idea of that experiment [he's probably said as much a few times since Bil's announcement about it], but now it could be worth the risk.

[So... he's asking him to go back to his ninja world? He didn't like that one experiment, so...]

[All that gets is a flat look. Shikamaru's sense of humor has left the building this week.]

I'm asking for you to help me get back to my world, so I can do what I need to do.

[Not even a smirk. No reaction at all, Jesus. Masaomi's own eyes widen at that expression. He takes in the gravity of what shikamaru's asking of him, and... Well really, it's a simple answer]

Ah. That's nothing, Shikamaru. I'll do it.

[He really should inform him on what to expect, get straight to it while they're on the subject.

Instead his shoulders slowly sag, and he finds himself looking at his hands.] ...thank you.

No questions asked.

[That was the mantra he had Shikamaru swear on. Even if Shikamaru had his own obligations and reservations. He does not. He stands properly, and walks over to crouch down next to his friend. His comrade]

[Automatically, one hand goes up to rub at his forehead; he's thinking. No questions or not, he needs to know what he's getting into.]

We'll go over what you'll need to do when I get back. When I left, I was in the middle of a war meeting. We'll be in a room full of anxious jounin who aren't going to be very happy by the surprise. [Ha, and a jounin commander who told him to make a good impression. Whoops.]

...that said, my dad actually is in attendance. He'll hear us out.

[...Okay, so]

How do I survive the first few seconds?

Just get on your knees and show them your hands, so they know you're not going to try anything. They'll be on guard, but they won't hurt me, and if you let me do the talking they won't hurt you.

[That... sounds like such a gamble. Such a gamble. And he blinks at it, before nodding. Okay, he can do that.

...Even if he can't, his death won't mess up much, right? His corpse will come back to Luceti and he'll revive. Worst he gets is a death penalty in exchange for Shikamaru knowing more about his enemies]

After that, they'll take us to Inoichi. [He sounds confident that there'd be an 'after', at least.] He can verify our stories with his mind-reading techniques. It'll take a small chunk of time, but it'll convince them.

[But a lot of people aren't comfortable with that kind of ability. He knows Katara isn't - he didn't ask because he didn't want to put her in that position. Either of them, really.]

I'm sorry I have to ask that of you. It's not too late to back out.

[...His mind. His goddamn mind. There's no denying his tenses up at that. A deep-seated fear comes into his heart at it. That ninja can do this is a horrifying revelation in and of itself. But.
