[So Masaomi Kida has a plan today. Namely, he's out to kidnap (for her own good) Katara. There's a few times he could do this. He considers going for her before school... but he's not a morning person and neither is she. After school feels like too little time, so he's opted to pull her aside towards the end of lunch (to hopefully evade Sokka), saying that he has forgotten something (which'll later evolve into "show you something" among other excuses). Well, him and Linda (because he's taken to bringing the pichu along to school, lately) And from there... the adventure begins.

Hours of inane things ensue, not to mention a handful of not-quite arguments about how late it is getting. Feel free to run into them more or less anywhere: item shop, Azzip pizza, various floors of various community buildings,Rec Center, south side of town, north side of town, generally more or less anywhere. Chances are you won't even need to be the first to speak, because you run a good chance of running into them talking! This'll be any time between lunch break at school and oh, early evening

"It's getting warmer, isn't it? She wanted to see the ocean."

Katara agreed with Masaomi's answer, at least in choice of what he chose to answer. Even the thought of defining what exactly they were doing made Katara sense storm clouds, and she'd much rather not deal with that.

She shot him a sidelong glance, straightening up. "Something like that, anyway."

"It's kinda okay. As oceans go. Mostly? I like to come out here and keep an eye on the boats. Especially..." Buffy jabbed a finger at the lovely-lined little Joanna Joyce flying its protective green pennant. "That one."

It took all he had to resist a joke about girls digging sailors and/or prostitutes. As it wad, he simply ended up smirking a little lewdly]

"She is a sweet ship," Katara said with genuine admiration. Her own loyalties belong to the Ocean Spirit, of course, but the Joanna Joyce is a fine vessel.

By this point, Buffy could never question a person's ship-loyalties. Mostly because she's learned that they're tricky little things to question and her own loyalty comes more with sentiment than seamanship. And a consuming admiration for the fact that Sparrow had built her himself in the depths of a terrible winter. For her, the boat was a sign of Jack's independence -- a trait few people considered and even fewer seemed to ascribe to the pirate. But Buffy happily painted him with the whole brushstroke. For as black as Jack claimed his guts to be and as conniving as he posed, the man did a great deal for himself.

So delighted was she in her own thoughts that she didn't even see the lewdness on Masaomi's face. Good thing, too. The Slayer had something of a temper problem.

"The weather'll warm up. Soon. And then we'll see the whole little rag-tag fleet on parade. I'm excited."

"Ooo~oh. So that's to say that we're going to have a send off? Smash some wine bottles?"

"What does smashing wine bottles have to do with anything?"

"Christening them. But--" and she started at the boy as she said this, as if daring him to make an untoward comment, "I'm pretty sure all these ships have already enjoyed their maiden voyages."

"Every last one, reeally?" Sheepish.

"Never would have thought."

"Everybody got a little ship crazy when we got the ocean."

Woooosh. That was the sound of all the innuendos in this conversation flying over Katara's head.

She could see what he did -- tricky. modern wordings. Exploiting Katara's otherworldliness. She could see it because it was something she frequently did to Jack. The difference? Jack loved it.

She'll keep an eye on you, punk.

"Guess I can't blame them. Some people, I take it, just gotta sail."

He didn't have anything to add to that, he just shrugged, leaning a bit to one side and waving a hand dismissively. He looked a little like a seal, actually.

"It gets in your blood," she spoke with quiet confidence and warm affection. "I've been a deck cat-monkey since I could crawl."

Cat-monkey. Huh.

Buffy needed to understand this situation a little better, so: "Katara. Gonna take this guy sailing when the weather's better?"

She waited to judge the reactions. Oh. And also. She was too lazy to just say Masaomi's name.

Was she?

Masaomi was actually curious to hear the answer to that.

Buffy, how could you turn on her like this? She gave a cautious glance between them. "I don't know. I hadn't really thought of it."

It's cool, Katara! Buffy actually has your interests at heart...

"Because we could do like an...outing. Thing. Thingamabob. Get a group together."

So she can do more nosy observing. Possibly with Sparrow on her arm to confer with.

"Ooooh, that doesn't sound bad, right?"

And he meant it. After all, while a private thing would be cool, he didn't actually know how to ride a boat.

And Katara didn't mind going places with Masaomi in groups. It was, in fact, her current preferable way of hanging out with Masaomi. She smiled a little hesitantly. "No, that doesn't sound bad at all. I think that would be nice, Buffy."

"It'll just require breaking the news to Jack that I'll be pleasure-cruising on someone else's craft. But -- hopefully? He'll take it like a man."

She smiled more warmly. Trying to draw more enthusiasm from the small crowd. "And we could pack a picnic..."

"If we're going that far, throw in a grill and I'll rock everyone's world."

"I guess we'll see what Sokka says. It is his ship."

And good luck breaking that news to Jack, Buffy.

...Eh. She'll seduce him with the notion of checking out the competition's vessel. Or something.

"Sokka's a reasonable guy. Also? A liker of fun. Y'know, within reason."

Sokka liked fun? You could have fooled Masaomi. Still, he shrugged, reserving comment because, you know. He beamed him earlier that day.
