He executes a flip over Masaomi's head, planting his feet on the trunk. Taking the kunai from before, Shikamaru carves small leaf symbols into the wood, spaced like foot steps.]

The principle isn't so different.

Well yeah, I figured that the chakra pull is pretty similar. I mean, one directly leads into the other.

[He puts the kunai away, and flips backwards up the tree, stopping on the farther side of that line he made earlier. Might as well make himself comfortable. He smirks.]

[Un huh... Masaomi blinks and then nods. He goes to standing and then starts taking some steps up the tree. Okay, so he's making some good progress so far]

[And Shikamaru will just be up here on the other side, silently rooting for him. He stays too, because it might help with the perception he mentioned earlier.]
