[ Masaomi has made a promise to himself today. It's the Monday after Valentines and he's pretty sure he hasn't been shifted yet. He's also gotten a pretty disappointing chocolate turnout on Valentines ~~probably - anyone is free to correct me if your characters gave something~~. And really, something Davis once said still weighs on him... Not that he can do anything about it this late in the game but he's going to be doing something special today:

While he's working at the Convenience Store or later in the day when he's hanging out around the square - not only is he going to flirt with almost every girl he can see, which isn't unusual, he is going to try to score as many actual dates as he can. Asking people out. Because why not? It'll be fun and chances are the plans will be put awry in the next week or two anyway.

So ladies, come at him. Or dudes come ask what he's doing or maybe join in on him. yolo swag ]

[The fact that Cilan even has to think about it for a second should be all the answer Masaomi needs, but Cilan still tries to come up with an answer for that anyway.] ...Well, I have helped Pokemon get together with their compatible partner once or twice before, like when my friends and I helped a pair of Cottonee become a couple...

[...But other than being able to successfully do a little Pokemon match-making (or valentines-induced shenanigans like last year), it's probably safe to say that Cilan is not quite as experienced with romance personally speaking. There are girls that do like him though, like the girls that hang out at his gym, but he's never dated any of them so does that even count?]

[ ... Wow bro. He smirks at that and is reaffirmed that he needs to help Cilan out in matters of love. But thne he just shakes his head and shrugs. Because you know what, fair enough ]

Not bad. That's gotta be a stressful thing.

[Assuming he's referring to the Pokemon match-making thing Cilan was talking about--]

Well, with some Pokemon, they prefer their partner to be a Pokemon that's capable of holding its own in battle, so they'll sometimes battle one another or other prospective mates to impress their desired partner. At the time, my friends and I helped train a Cottonee we met with improving its aim and dodging skills so that it could impress another Cottonee that it was smitten with.

[...Unless there was something else you meant by that, in which case, hey, enjoy the free lesson about Pokemon match-making.]

You know, I could see that. Because that would definitely be how Linda does.

[He nods] Given her personality, I would be a little surprised if that wasn't the case.

How is Linda, by the way?

She's... been improving. The snacks you gave me have helped a lot.

Oh, that's good! I'm glad to hear that there's been an improvement. [He's been working on improving that recipe here, so he's glad that it was good.] If you want, I can make more snacks for her if you'd like me to.

Honestly, I'd really appreciate it. I'm hoping to get her to a point where I'm comfortable using the Thunder Stone I have in my room to give her the final push... but I'd also like some thoughts on you for that subject.

[ Silver backed up that idea, but then this guy's the pro ]

Ahh, that would certainly be wonderful if Linda evolved! Evolution has such an amazing taste to it, watching your Pokemon grow from all the effort they've put themselves through as they become stronger and gain tremendous power! There's almost nothing sweeter than getting to see all of that hard work pay off! [Watching his Dwebble evolve into Crustle is one of the greatest memories he has, so of course he would like for Masaomi and Linda to have that same kind of joy again if she was to evolve into Raichu.

But then Cilan claps his hands together, tone slightly a little more serious.] However, until you can control that overflowing strength, it's hard to say whether it can be called a true evolution--it's not just the Pokemon that should evolve, the trainer should evolve too! Even though your Pokemon has evolved, you have to work together to perfect your strategies, making changes where needed to accommodate your Pokemon's new power and form. There are even rare cases where Pokemon are surprised by their own evolution and may become agitated if you're not careful, so it's best to try to be prepared in cases like those as well.

[Though, since Linda's evolution requires the use of a Thunder Stone, you might not have that issue since she would be a little more prepared for it in that case...]

[ A trainer needs to evolve too... that's actually a neat way to put it. Perfect strategies, the new form... ] Yeah, it was pretty amazing when she broke out from the Pichu form. [ He looks thoughtful now, drumming his fingers on the counter as he thinks about it. ]

In all honesty, whenever her and I used to talk about it, she's wanted to have the new power. But you know her - she gets ahead of herself sometimes. [ Even if him holding her back too much had been the problem which led to the electricity, so it's a complicated thing ] And even since we started the recharging, we've sort of been silent about using the Thunder Stone, but Silver seemed to support my theory that once we reach a certain point together, the increased power of the Raichu form might help her get back to normal completely. But that's just the thoughts of two teenagers, so...

I can't say that it's a guarantee, but...it's honestly not a bad idea to consider as well--the strength gained from evolving could potentially offer a power boost that may restore her electricity back to normal levels.

It's also important not to be too hasty with such a decision too, to think it over carefully when you're actually given the opportunity to do so, such as in this case. If you feel that you should wait until you're comfortable with the idea of using it, then that is an acceptable taste. [Even he can't say that he's immediately ready to make that decision, should he ever get his hands on a Leaf Stone to evolve Pansage with. But he puts a hand on Masaomi's shoulder, smiling.] But I wish for only the best for both you and Linda. When both of you feel that you are ready to use it, then I will be sure to offer a word of congratulations, as well as any words of advice if needed!

[ A... ha ha ] So there's no clear cut answers, are there?

[ but he leans towards the hand a bit. He does appreciate it. he appreciates Cilan. He feels supported by him ]

I'm afraid not. Some answers can be found quickly, sure, but...well, some challenges wouldn't have a satisfying taste to them if they were too easy to solve, I suppose?

Yeah, you'd think that, anyway. [ But he's no longer young. He's younger but... maybe he thought he would have things more together by now ]

Yeah... [A short pause.] To be honest, I'm not sure if I would be ready to use one of those items right away myself. There are a lot of things I'd have to consider, things I've even thought about before, but if today I was to be suddenly given a Leaf Stone or any other evolutionary stones that I could use for my Pokemon, I don't know if I would be able to use it right then and there yet...

[He then gives a small, slightly dramatic sigh~] Evolution is amazing, but it certainly can have an intimidating atmosphere as well! There are so many flavors in regards to this taste, but that's what makes it so interesting!

[So hey, if it makes you feel any better, even Cilan's not sure yet if he's ready to take that step yet should he ever get his hands on a Leaf Stone someday?]

[ ... ] Linda doesn't have a home to return to, right now, unlike your partners.

[ And he says this distantly, but it's a big part of what's on his mind in relation to this. If he doesn't do it, what if he goes home? She'll lose her chance unless someone else gets a thunder stone for her again, because his will vanish. And what if he ends up with a new trainer who doesn't know about the electrical issue. What if Cilan goes home? The sooner she can be back to normal the better, and the happier and stronger she can be, the better she'll survive in this harsh world she was born into ]

[...Oh. Despite knowing that Masaomi is unfamiliar with certain aspects of the world of Pokemon in comparison to Cilan and most of the other trainers here...once or twice, Cilan honestly forgets that if Masaomi should ever leave Luceti, Linda wouldn't be going with him, since she was born here in Luceti. After all, in the...what, almost two years since he first came here, he's always seen Masaomi and Linda together. The idea of one without the other to him at this point just seems...strange, somehow.

So for a second or two, Cilan actually seems speechless and maybe even a little guilty for not having considered that again until just now, but...well, he's not ready to give in to pessimism, at least not yet in regards to this particular topic of conversation.]

Then we would all make sure that she's well-taken care of in your absence, should that ever occur. [And he doesn't mean just himself--Gold, Silver, the rest of the other trainers. Cilan has the utmost confidence that they would all want to help and make sure to have Linda's best interests at heart.] ...But try not to dwell too much on this flavor, okay? Let's try to focus our energy into what we can do for her today, rather than simply dwelling on the thought of what we might not be able to do for her tomorrow? [A slight pause.] ...Erm, well, I believe that's how that particular expression goes, I think...

[ He exhales. It's something which has been in the back of his mind for a long time. It's not like Cilan reassuring him like that can make him dismiss the whole thing. But he does feel a little more relaxed, and he runs his hands along the counter curling in towards himself. And then he is privately glad that Linda's in the back room sort of playing around. Better for her not to overhear that... ]

Yeah, I hear that. Thanks, man.

[Cilan doesn't expect Masaomi to just dismiss that concern completely. He only meant that Masaomi shouldn't let himself worry about it too much. It might not be the exact same type of concern, but he thinks he can sort of relate--Iris is gone, and that's...kind of a relief, all things considered, but there's still his brother or Ash to worry about and whether or not they would be okay if he was to someday leave this place while they were still here. But dwelling too much on things like that leaves a bitter taste in one's mouth, so he wouldn't want Masaomi to be constantly worried about that sort of thing potentially happening in regards to Linda.]

Yes, this conversation suddenly had a rather serious flavor to it, didn't it? Perhaps we should think of something with a more carefree atmosphere to it that would help change this flavor to one that's a little less bitter...

... So, serious is bitter?

It can be, sometimes. [But after a second or two, he suddenly amends, as if musing aloud to himself.] ...Although, it might not be that bitter in this case--perhaps "bittersweet" would be the better word to use to describe this taste?
