[Shikamaru was on the mission until a few days ago and it rattled him, he could tell. Green's relative showed up recently, but before that they'd been doing a bunch of training... which pushed back his normal training, personal fitness, and ninja stuff with Shikamaru. Gold was gone. He was still trying as he could to avoid Sakura, probably because he still wasn't entirely sure where he stood with her or with ... other parties.

Life was complicated, basically, and he found himself again longing to return to the comparative simplicity of Ikeburkuro. Or maybe just his own ignorance at the time. He thought then that he'd experienced the darkness, and while he didn't want to make light of what happened to Saki or how much the betrayal from Izaya still stung... when it came down to it, he had no idea how dark things could get. None at all. Or so he thought now.

Also, his zappyness had faded from the kidnapping, but Linda's electricity still isn't back up to par. Actually, it's still floundering around... well, frankly, lower than it was when she was born. She was born with a lot of potential, and while she can now pull off the careful stuff they've trained with (Magnet Rise, Flash, etc) she can't even pull off a proper thundershock. He knows she's been looking at the thunderstone in his room more and more, but he can't help but think that would compound the problem. A problem he's been trying until now to keep under wraps as much as possible, for her pride and because of his fear Green'll take her from him over it.

So what was he doing?

Well, him and his Pikachu are getting some exercise. It's not particularly icy today, so they do it outside, running around town and leaping up trashcans and walls to roofs, swinging off lamp posts, and in Linda's case floating some. Basically, parkour/free running as much as is possible in an almost-rural town like this. It's making him miss the urban environment even more, but it does feel nice to show off a little with the stamina and strength which now backs up the balance he's always had. Sure, the both of them mess up now and again, but more often than not (sometimes with some chakra help) they pull off some crazy leaping stunts. What's more, as the day drags on of them doing this, he and his mouse get progressively more in sync as the joy of showing off and doing crazy stuff overrides both of their degrees of shame.

So run into them doing that all over, but mostly centered around the plaza.

That night, he settles in for a meal at Seventh Heaven. He should go home or hang out at the Convenience Store, but he decides he'd rather eat out right now. So him and Linda go in to eat there. He also pulls out his journal and considers something...]

Gold's Aitaro and Yellow-chan's Chuchu. [He shifts now to a little shrug position, but keeps his hands behind his head]

So Gold and Yellow entrusted this Pikachu in your care... [Very interesting, very interesting indeed. Surely there is good reason as to why they did so, meaning that he can be trusted. They wouldn't give Pokemon away to just anybody, now would they?]

I must say, from what I've seen earlier, the two of you seem to share a close bond. Though I admit that I'd never seen a Pikachu float in the air for a short period of time. Was she born with that ability or did you teach her that move?

[While his expression doesn't really change, his mood sours a bit. He's been wondering about that... Aitaro is who entrusted him, but it's also true the two of them had to have a say. And was it worth it? After Green's accusation- he can't help but wonder. It's stuck with him. It's made him afraid.

Sensing that, Linda taps the back of his head with her tail, mercifully not iron tailed.

The fact he is saying it's a close bond reassures him though]

Trained-- I think. We sort of discovered it by accident. [...How does he explain this-] A good friend of mine is wary of electricity, so back when she was a pichu, we got into trying to control her charge.

[Which in retrospect... no, don't drift.]

And controlling her charge somehow caused her to float... [Now isn't that something. It comes to show that certain accidents can be a good thing when training. In some cases, you learn from your mistakes while in others you learn a new move. How fascinating.

What isn't though is the fact that he didn't introduced himself.]

Oh, right! I got a little carried away asking questions about your Pikachu that I forgot to introduce myself. [He hands out a hand for a handshake] I'm Professor Samuel Oak. And you are?

Yeah, I know, that's how I like it.

[His life...]

Well, if you like being sad, don't let me stop you. Maybe you'll pick up a radioactive rock this year and have more to be sad about.

It's magnetism, actually. [And to demonstrate this, Linda's cheeks glow as she runs the currents of electricity around her body to make a small field to float on. which gives Masaomi a little vertigo to have her do it right on his head, but she stops quick. She's just proud she can manage that. He lowers his arms (one petting her as he does) and then takes Oak's with the other]

Masaomi Kida. And the one on my head's Linda. [Who waves a little]

Or you could be grateful for the gifts you received?

Don't make me sound heartless.

I'm only repeating back what I read. [Not that he can tell, but she's laughing right now.]

A pleasure to meet you, Masaomi. And you too, Linda.

[He breaks the handshake a moment later, only to reach out and give Linda a small scritch at the back of her ear.]

Your Pikachu is something else. [He says in reference to her little magnetic trick.] You must be very proud of her.

Just because the quantity isn't a party doesn't mean the quality isn't a surprise.

[A beat] Get it?

[Something else? Proud? He wonders how that matches up to his own abilities. But a smile remains on his face all the same and he gives a little wave of sorts. He would nod, but she's on his head]

Definitely. She's the best.

Now that's what I'd like to hear from trainers. [Oak is very pleased. So far, his first impression of Masaomi is pretty strong and welcoming. And that is a good thing]

Pokemon are our partners, yes. But they should know that they are acknowledged and loved.

White day....? [He'd learned of this particular tradition in Luceti as well, of course, but--]

I nearly forgot.

Hahaha, well, I'd say it's pretty hard not to manage that with the likes of her generation.

[And he says this with a little laugh, which makes her roll her eyes]

For shame, Frey-kun! I thought you were more poetic than that! [Pointing a fork dramatically at the book]

It's not a holiday I generally celebrate. [This year, though.. He'd have to get Tear something, at least. That was how it worked, right?]

White Day? [Isn't that some tradition related to Valentine's Day? (Which, in retrospect, turns out Masaomi actually was right when he warned us about Valentine's sometime ago, so should we be concerned about White Day now too...)]
